The plastic handle stays cool even when the pot is full of hot wax!
To make any type of candles we always place the wax in a Wax Melting Pot (a pot with a little water in which we place another pot with our wax) to melt it. The wax is always melted in a Bain-Marie, never directly on the fire. The water is boiled at 100 degrees Celsius, preventing our wax from overheating, smoking or even igniting.
