Cotton or wooden wick?

When it comes to making a candle the choice of wick is often an afterthought or even the last choice.
Many times we give priority to the choice of the type of wax, containers, fragrances and decide which wick to use at the last minute.

This turns out to be a mistake, as our wick determines the quality of the flame we will have and therefore the quality of our entire candle.

So let’s look at the two main categories of wicks that we can
use:

Cotton wicks: waxed wicks which are the most common because they fit all types of candles.

At Candle.gr you can find 3 types of 100% cotton wicks, waxed with natural wax, with cotton fiber yarns for stiffness and self-balancing:

– STABILO for vegetable waxes and gels, such as soft and hard soy and rapeseed wax (Colza)
– PGS for cocowax and paraffin waxes of all types
– ZG with loose weave for raw beeswax created by beekeepers.

Wooden wicks: a characteristic of wooden wicks is the pleasant, relaxing sound they make when lit, reminiscent of wood burning in a fireplace.
They usually produce a wide smoldering flame that makes our wax pool more easily.

In herbal candles we use 2 wicks in a base, while in paraffin wax candles we use 1 wick.

The wooden wicks you will find at Candle.gr are made from fruit trees, non-toxic, lead-free, zinc-free and paraffin-free.
