Basic Preparation Instructions

  1. Weigh the wax and heat it to approximately 70°C, stirring until it melts evenly. To dissolve powder dye, the TDS specifies approximately 75°C. Avoid heating above 85°C or for prolonged periods.
  2. Let it reach the pouring temperature. Add the appropriate fragrance immediately before pouring, where practical, and mix thoroughly. For massage wax, follow the guidelines in the next section.
  3. Pour at 45–55°C into a clean, dry container suitable for candles that is at least at room temperature. Adjust the temperature through trial and error depending on the container and the formulation. In large containers, you may need to add more wax.
  4. Let it cool undisturbed at room temperature. Wait 48 hours before testing the burn. Test each combination of wax, fragrance, color, wick, and container.

Fragrance and Use in Massage Candles

The TDS states that the fragrance loading capacity for candle making is up to 10–12 %. This refers to wax compatibility and candle performance and is not a general dosage for application to the skin.

For massage candles, use only fragrances and dyes that are suitable for intended skin contact. The fragrance concentration is determined by the applicable IFRA certificate for that specific fragrance for this use and by the evaluation of the final formulation. The IFRA certificate does not replace the safety assessment. 2% is not a universal safety threshold.

Dermatological testing of the wax

Kerax’s special statement regarding KeraSoy Massage – Container Grade, dated January 28, 2019, documents an independent dermatological and clinical evaluation of the tested wax. The addition of fragrance, color, or other ingredients is not automatically covered by this testing: the final formulation is evaluated for its intended use.

The preparation and melting temperatures are not intended as guidelines for application to the skin. Hot wax can cause burns.
